Getting Around
Fowlmere is served by regular bus services to Cambridge, Royston, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Foxton and Melbourn.
Local train services include Foxton to Cambridge (10 mins) and Royston to London (50 mins).
Coach services run to a number of destinations from Trumpington Park & Ride.
There are also many local destinations conveniently accessible by bicycle, and a volunteer-run community transport scheme.

A2B Bus services
26 (Royston–Cambridge) Timetable
The 26 bus route to Cambridge provides access to Foxton Station, Harston Surgery, Trumpington Park & Ride, Waitrose (Trumpington), St Faith’s School, the Nuffield Hospital, the Botanic Garden, The Leys School and Cambridge city centre. Southbound there is access to Melbourn and Royston.
31 (Fowlmere–Addenbrooke’s) Timetable
The 31 bus route to Addenbrooke’s Hospital provides access to Thriplow, Newton, Hauxton and the Shelfords Long Road 6th Form College, CAST Academy and Addenbrooke’s.
In addition, the first service of the day runs through to Cambridge, providing access for students in the village to Hills Road 6th Form college, and there is a return service from Cambridge at 4.30pm.
7a (Fowlmere–Sawston-Trumpington P&R) Timetable
The 7a bus route provides access to Thriplow, Heathfield, Whittlesford, Hinxton, Pampisford, Sawston (passing Sawston Medical Practice), Stapleford and Trumpington P&R.
This new route currently only operates once a day from Fowlmere (early morning outbound and lunchtime return) but we hope with good usage the service will be increased.
Unfortunately none of the bus services run on Sundays or Bank Holidays.

Train services
Live departures: Foxton | Shepreth | Royston | Whittlesford

Fares to London: from £17.25 adult return with railcard, from £26.20 adult return without railcard, from £31.70 family return with railcard
The two closest National Rail stations are at Foxton (2.5 miles) and Shepreth (2.5 miles). Foxton has no dedicated parking. Shepreth has a very small carpark.
Royston station (6 miles) has ample parking and faster trains. There are 4 direct services per hour from Royston to London, the fastest taking 50 minutes.
Whittlesford Parkway station (9 miles) provides access to Stansted Airport and London Liverpool Street.
Various railcards are available which reduce the cost of off-peak travel, typically giving 1/3 off ticket prices.

Coach services
The nearest coach station is at Trumpington Park & Ride, which can be reached by car (10 mins), bus (20 mins) and bicycle (30 mins).
The following National Express coach services run from Trumpington Park & Ride:
- 727 Great Yarmouth → Heathrow Airport
- 492 Norwich → London (via Stansted & Heathrow Airports)
- 075 Bury St Edmunds → London (via Stansted Airport)
These provide direct services to a number of destinations including London (Victoria Coach Station), Stansted & Heathrow Airports, Norwich, Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Mildenhall, Thetford & Great Yarmouth.

Getting around by bicycle
For short journeys around Fowlmere and to the villages nearby, using a bicycle is ideal as it is healthy, low cost and helps to make our roads safer. Our neighbouring villages are readily accessible by bicycle, and Cambridge is also within reach for commuting or leisure trips. Typical journey times are:
Thriplow – 6 mins
Foxton – 10 mins
Shepreth – 11 mins
Melbourn – 16 mins
Newton – 12 mins
Harston – 18 mins
Cambridge – 45 mins
The track from Thriplow across the M11 bridge (The Drift) provides access to Whittlesford (18 mins) and Sawston (30 mins). This route can become muddy in very wet conditions.
Our nearest two secondary schools are also within reach by bicycle: Melbourn Village College (15 mins) and Sawston Village College (30 mins).
Local shops are accessible by bicycle in Thriplow (6 mins), Foxton (10 mins), Melbourn garden centres (11 mins), Melbourn centre (16 mins) and Meldreth (18 mins).
In 2021 the Parish Council installed cycle stands at The Butts, The Chequers, the Village Hall, the Cemetery and the Tennis Courts.

Community transport
Royston & District Community Transport offers door-to-door transport to people who are unable to use conventional public transport for reasons of age, frailty, impaired mobility or the lack of public transport, and do not have the use of a car. Transport is provided by a network of local volunteers.
Fowlmere Parish Council supports the provision of this service for the local community with an annual contribution.
