What are we doing?
Two routes have been identified for opportunities to improve active travel conditions as they provide links between rural villages to access key amenities. These are Fowlmere Rd/Mill Rd, linking Fowlmere and Melbourn, and Fowlmere Rd, linking Fowlmere and Foxton.
We are carrying out this survey to understand how local residents currently use the routes, how residents would like to use the routes and whether any changes would increase active travel use, whilst also improving safety for all.
What is active travel?
Active travel refers to walking, wheeling and cycling. Including the use of mobility aids such as wheelchairs and pushchairs as well as scooters and adapted cycles.
What could we look at?
If there is support for active travel measures to be introduced, we could do further work to investigate the possibility of reducing traffic speeds, reducing the number of motorised vehicles using the routes or introducing a separated facility for walking, wheeling and cycling.
What’s next?
The survey responses will indicate whether there is local support for active travel interventions between Fowlmere and Melbourn, and Fowlmere and Foxton. This will enable us to consider some feasibility work and further engagement on the routes.
