Parish Council By-Election
Following the resignation of Cllr Will Nichols a vacancy has arisen on Fowlmere Parish Council.
Mr Nichols has been offered a new job opportunity. The job however is “politically restricted” and it is this that has caused Will’s resignation.
Under section 87(2) of the 1972 Local Government Act, if 10 electors (residents) request in writing to SCDC within 14 days of the resignation that they would like a by-election then it is automatically triggered.
Without such a request the Parish Council would have been granted the right to fill the vacancy by co-option.
On this occasion 11 electors (residents) have made such a request.
The by-election will be held on Thursday 13th August 2026
The by-election will be managed by SCDC but the cost will be borne by Fowlmere Parish Council.
Nominations will open on Thursday 9th July and close on Friday 17th July @ 4pm
Nominations must be delivered by hand to SCDC during the nomination period.
Full details, including links to nomination forms, are on the SCDC elections webpage: www.scambs.gov.uk/elections/elections-2026
